When backing up a remote server, the error "0xe00084af - The directory or file was not found, or could not be accessed" is returned in a failed job log.

Exact Error Message
0xe00084af - The directory or file was not found, or could not be accessed

Details:
The debug log from the remote server will show the following entry:

BETCPListener::ListenOnAvailablePort: Could not listen on protocol IPv4, port #####: An error occurred while listening on a socket: Error Code: 10013, System Error Message: An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions.

The port for Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) that Backup Exec uses is being shared by another application on the remote server.

Solution:

Change the NDMP port to something other than 10000 which is the default port on all servers that are being backed up by Backup Exec. Refer to the Related Documents section for more information on changing the NDMP port used by the BE Remote Agent.
